What is the best age to have my baby's portrait taken?

Newborns, ideally, should be photographed within the first 10 days of life. It's important to have portraits created during this stage because it is very easy to curl and position newborns into those sweet little poses. Also, you will have a permanent record of your baby's tiny size. After all, he/she will never be that small again!

After the newborn stage, we recommend having portraits made at any stage you feel is important, i.e., sitting up, crawling, walking. These stages don't always coincide with the typical 3-month milestones that most parents want to capture, so it's important to remember that a portrait at any stage is a priceless record of your child on that particular day. It doesn't necessarily need to happen at exactly the 6 or 9-month mark.

How far in advance should I schedule our session?

Newborns - Moms, please contact us as soon as you know your due date. We will schedule a tentative session based on that date and plan from there.

Baby/Children/Maternity/Family sessions - Please schedule your session at least 6-8 weeks in advance.

Holiday portrait sessions - These sessions fill up fast and are booked as early as June. All holiday sessions must be complete by Oct. 31, and all orders must be in by Nov. 15 (to guarantee delivery by Dec. 24).

What does the session fee include?

Please see the custom portrait session area on the Portrait Investment page »

Where will our session take place?

To put it simply: anywhere you like..... of course, within reason! Most of our clients choose to have their children photographed in the comfort of their own home. Others prefer a favorite hang-out, like a park, for instance. The best location choice is one where you and your family will be most comfortable.

Please refer to our Service Area map for locations covered by the normal session fee.

How long will our session last?

Most children & family sessions can last up to 2 hours (with breaks, if needed).

Newborn sessions can last 3-4 hours due to feeding, changing, and the occasional clean up!

Regardless of the type of session we have together, please do not feel rushed or pressured at all.
We will give you and your children ample time to get comfortable, so that we may create the natural, memorable portraits you commission us to create.

How many proofs will you present?

We prefer to show finished images, rather than untouched proofs. All of our images are carefully enhanced and minor retouching is included (blemishes, etc).

A minimum of 20-30 unique images will be presented (in both color and black & white).

All in all, you will have a total of 40-60 gorgeous images in your online gallery to choose from.

Do you offer image retouching?

All images we create include basic retouching (blemishes, etc). We prefer to not alter a person's reality for a portrait, and we choose to not go overboard in post-processing our images.

However, we realize the occasional situation arises where additional attention may be required on a certain image (to remove a logo from a shirt, for instance).

Upon request, any additional retouching will be invoiced the rate of $50/hr.

Do you sell a disc of digital images from our session?

Gorgeous, printed custom portraits are our specialty at Capturinglight Photography. However, we understand that you may desire a disc of your session to store in a fireproof safe to serve as a backup of your precious memories. For this purpose, we offer an Archival DVD available only with our Elite Collection.

If you are interested in web-sized images to share with friends via email, we offer Digital Wallets for this purpose (complimentary with every image purchased).

Please see the Portrait Investment guide for more information on our digital products »

When will our online gallery be available?

Your online gallery will be available approximately two (2) weeks from the date of our session.

The gallery expires after five (5) days, and you must place your order during this timeframe. We always double-check with you before publishing your gallery to make sure that it is a convenient week for you.

Please note.... if your gallery expires before you place your order, there is a $50 fee to republish it for an additional five (5) days.

When will I receive my order?

Quality custom portraits and specialty items are created with a lot of love, and thus, take time.

Your final print order will be delivered approximately 4-6 weeks after we receive your order and full payment.

Amanda will contact you to set up a convenient time for delivery of your images (where applicable).

What is your archiving & reprints policy?

Archiving :: All ordered images will be archived for 1 year after your initial order.
Unwanted images (those not ordered) will be purged 30 days after your gallery is published.

Reprints :: You are welcome to place a reprint order from the images you originally purchased. There is a $150 minimum on reprints.
